Finally, Sydney Carton finds something to do for Lucie, which costs his
life. Charles is caught, put into prison and sentenced to death. Since Carton
and Charles look alike, Carton decides to take the place for Charles and dies
for him. He wants to keep his promise to Lucie that he will keep the people she
loves around her. He thinks Charles is not worth dying and he wants to die for
him. He knows that his death will make Lucie’s family be together. Thus, he is
not scared to sacrifice his life for saving her love Lucie’s husband. He is a
great man because he can do and he will do anything for his love. He regards
his death as the most valuable thing that he has ever done because it makes him
keep the promise with Lucie. He thinks that “it is far, far better thing that I
do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have
ever known.” He is tired of his life, and he eventually finds something
valuable to end his life.
Love is sacrifice. "If my career were of that better kind that there was any opportunity or capacity of sacrifice in it, I would embrace any sacrifice for you and for those dear to you."

Carton the sad man
Sydney Carton goes to visit Charles and Lucie right after their
honeymoon. He wants the friendship with Charles. He has a talk with Charles.
After he leaves, Charles considers him as a careless and reckless man. However,
Lucie tells Charles that Carton is a good man but it is just his heart is
wounded. Indeed, Carton is a sad man. He cannot find anything important to him
except Lucie. The value of his life is just Lucie. He wants to do something for
Lucie and what he can do is to make friends with the one Lucie loves, her
husband, Charles. He comes to visit the couple as soon as they back from their
shows how much he cares about Lucie. He cares Lucie more than he cares about himself
which causes Lucie to have the feeling of sympathy on him. He drinks because he
cannot find any value. He finally finds something he cares is Lucie. He is
truly a sad man.
Carton loves Lucie
Sydney
Carton finds out that there is someone he cares, Lucie Manatte. He finds that
the life that he cares no one and no one cares about him has been ended since
he sees Lucie. He cares about Lucie more than anything. He knows that he loves
Lucie. His life is not worthless any more. He finally goes up to Lucie and has
a talk with her. He tells Lucie how much he cares about her. However, Carton
tells Lucie that he doesn’t want anything back from her because he thinks it
doesn’t worth to do so. He just wants to give everything to her. He tells Lucie
that he cannot do anything better about his life, but Lucie convinces him that
he can live a better life and find a value of himself. Sydney Carton considers
Lucie as his last dream of his sole and tells Lucie that he will do anything
for her no matter what even it costs his life. He will keep the people Lucie
loves around her. He makes the promise to Lucie and then leaves her.
Sydney Carton cares about nothing
Sydney
Carton is tired of himself and his life, and he is tired of everything because
he cannot find any value of himself. He works with Mr. Stryver and he does all
the work even though he is just an assistant. He doesn’t care
whether he is actually doing the work for Mr. Stryver since he doesn’t care
about anything. He said that "I am a disappointed drudge, sir. I care for no man on earth, and not man on earth cares for me."
He feels regret about himself everyday and he finds himself worthless on the earth until he sees Darnay. They look alike but they are just so different. he asked Darnay that if he thinks they look particularly alike. It seems that Carton wants to live like Darnay. He doesn't want to live the way he is living. He wants to change, but he just doesn't know how to change. He finds Darnay who has set a great example for him, which makes him find the thing has fallen away from. However, he is still struggling. He doesn't know what he should do.
