Carton the sad man

Sydney Carton goes to visit Charles and Lucie right after their honeymoon. He wants the friendship with Charles. He has a talk with Charles. After he leaves, Charles considers him as a careless and reckless man. However, Lucie tells Charles that Carton is a good man but it is just his heart is wounded. Indeed, Carton is a sad man. He cannot find anything important to him except Lucie. The value of his life is just Lucie. He wants to do something for Lucie and what he can do is to make friends with the one Lucie loves, her husband, Charles. He comes to visit the couple as soon as they back from their shows how much he cares about Lucie. He cares Lucie more than he cares about himself which causes Lucie to have the feeling of sympathy on him. He drinks because he cannot find any value. He finally finds something he cares is Lucie. He is truly a sad man.
