Sydney Carton goes to visit Charles and Lucie right after their
honeymoon. He wants the friendship with Charles. He has a talk with Charles.
After he leaves, Charles considers him as a careless and reckless man. However,
Lucie tells Charles that Carton is a good man but it is just his heart is
wounded. Indeed, Carton is a sad man. He cannot find anything important to him
except Lucie. The value of his life is just Lucie. He wants to do something for
Lucie and what he can do is to make friends with the one Lucie loves, her
husband, Charles. He comes to visit the couple as soon as they back from their
shows how much he cares about Lucie. He cares Lucie more than he cares about himself
which causes Lucie to have the feeling of sympathy on him. He drinks because he
cannot find any value. He finally finds something he cares is Lucie. He is
truly a sad man.
